Trauma Therapy in Vancouver (Online Across BC)

Trauma therapy at Emergence Counselling & Wellness uses evidence-based approaches including EMDR, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic therapy to treat the neurological and emotional effects of trauma. We work with single-incident trauma, complex developmental trauma, PTSD, and the lasting effects of emotional neglect. Our team of five registered therapists provides trauma therapy online across British Columbia from our Vancouver practice.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy is a specialized approach that addresses the emotional, psychological, and physiological impact of traumatic experiences. Trauma can shape how you feel, think, and interact with the world around you — sometimes long after the event has passed.

At Emergence Counselling & Wellness, we provide
online (virtual) trauma therapy for adults in Vancouver and across British Columbia (BC).
In a supportive therapeutic environment, you can begin to process experiences in a safe and structured way. Trauma therapy acknowledges that healing is not only about revisiting the past — it is also about learning new, healthier ways to respond to stress, cultivate resilience, and move forward with a renewed sense of empowerment.

Common Reasons People Seek Trauma Therapy

People may reach out for trauma therapy when they notice:

  • Anxiety, panic, or feeling “on edge” much of the time
  • Intrusive memories, nightmares, flashbacks, or feeling easily triggered
  • Avoidance of places, people, or situations that remind you of what happened
  • Emotional numbness, shutdown, or dissociation
  • Difficulty trusting or feeling safe in relationships
  • Shame, self-criticism, or a sense of being “stuck”

You do not need a diagnosis to benefit from trauma therapy. If your nervous system is carrying the impact of past experiences, therapy can help.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

is a specialized, evidence-based form of trauma therapy designed to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they lose their intense emotional charge.

During EMDR, you are guided to briefly focus on aspects of a traumatic memory while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation (such as side-to-side eye movements, taps, or tones). This dual focus helps the brain update how it stores the memory, which can reduce overwhelming emotions and support more adaptive beliefs over time. Many people experience relief from symptoms such as anxiety, flashbacks, and intrusive thoughts.

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)

is a specialized, bottom-up trauma therapy approach that focuses on the earliest physiological sequence of a traumatic experience — often before intense emotion takes over.
